CARL FABER is a freelance lighting designer based in Brooklyn, New York. Carl has collaborated with theaters, companies, directors, choreographers, and visual artists across the United States, Europe, and Asia, including recent designs with Arena Stage, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Ars Nova, Attack Theatre, Shanghai Centre Theatre, Wadsworth Theater, Theater Freiburg, and Non-Stop Wroclaw. Carl has toured with extensively with Bon Iver and The National, has designed dozens of productions for Norwegian Cruise Lines, and served as the Co-Lighting Supervisor at the Williamstown Theatre Festival (Artistic Director Nicholas Martin) in 2008 and 2009.
Carl is a Founding Member and Resident Lighting Designer for Woodshed Collective, responsible for the Lighting Design of 2011′s The Tenant. Additionally, Carl is a Guest Lecturer and Designer at the Crossroads School in Los Angeles. Notable collaborations include work with Blue Man Group, Stanton Collaborative, David Weiner Design, Barneys New York, Ferragamo, and many corporate clients and special event companies throughout the United States. Carl has served as associate/assistant to Kenneth Posner, Brian MacDevitt, Rui Rita, Justin Townsend, Ann G. Wrightson, and Ben Stanton on numerous projects, including the Broadway productions of The Book of Mormon, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, August: Osage County, 9 to 5: The Musical, Dividing the Estate, and Present Laughter. In addition to his pursuits in lighting, Carl is a web developer/designer and dabbles in photography.
Carl is a member of the United Scenic Artists Local 829. He holds a B.A. in Drama and Art History from Vassar College, where he was the recipient of the Kazan Prize for excellence in Drama. Carl grew up in Portland, Oregon and Los Angeles, California.
