MIKHAEL TARA GARVER is a D.C. born, Brooklyn based and proud Chicago bred immersive theater director. She created and premiered Fornicated at the Emerging America Festival(American Repertory Theater); Gloryana by Andrew Gerle (World Premiere Workshop at The Public Theater, York Theater); a musical immersive Black Snow; andExperiment 2010/2012 at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston (music, texting, and sixty performers throughout the museum). She has worked as a director at the Atlantic Theater, American Repertory Theater, American Conservatory Theater, The Kitchen, Grand Arts Center, New York University, The Goodman Theater, The Public Theater, Yale University, American Theater Company, Timeline Theatre, DePaul University, PlayPenn, Court Theatre, and Steppenwolf Theater Company. She has created live events for AMC Television, the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg, The Black Label Bacon Strip Show, and numerous other branded events. She was the associate director on Sleep No More, the Artistic Director of Chicago’s Uma Productions, an associate artist for SITI company, and the first international Emerging Artist for the National Theater of Scotland. She teaches at Columbia University School of the Arts, Barnard College, and leads the directing track for Playwrights Horizons at NYU. In 2015 she received commissions from NWI at Montclair, The Culture Mill, and the Kennedy Center for the new immersive works #revolution, The Solar Theater Project, and F+J respectively; projects still currently in development.
